Update from Cloverleaf Walks

The group had a very sunny 2 hour four mile walk in the Washington area on the first Monday of March. We climbed Warren Hill, a lovely wooded area. After descending we joined a bridleway going westwards parallel with the South Downs and had superb views. We doubled back and returned to Washington village by crossing the bridge over the A24.

Then, lunch at the pub! We hope for similar weather on April 4th, our next walk. N.B. Having led walks in the local countryside since 1998 I realise people do appreciate that there is still much to enjoy. BUT I have noticed that in three fields on the west side of Worthing Road it appears that the grass has been killed. It is now beige, no longer green as it should be at this time of year. On contacting Defra I was told that where builders have the option to build this is legal.

The very next evening I noticed three deer apparently grazing, struggling to find some green vegetation, which did still exist around the poles in the middle of the field, and at the edges. It makes one wonder for how long the will continue to exist. Cloverleaf Walks continue to take place on the first Monday of each month.

There is no formal membership but participants usually give a small donation for me to pass on to Chestnut Tree Children’s Hospice. If you would like to join us please contact Gillian on 01403 730439
