News from Castlewood
Book week incorporating World Book Day was a great success; the visit from poet, Joshua Seigal was exciting and inspiring; his enthusiasm for poetry shone through. Staff and children shared poems across the schools and the children wrote and listened to some fabulous poetry throughout the week. The “poetree” - a tree displaying the children’s poetry - will be completed once the weather settles down as we don’t want soggy poems!
A pupil from Year 6 was inspired by the class reader “The Boy at the Back of the Class” and held a bake sale during half term, raising £200 for a refugee charity.
Supporters of Castlewood School held their AGM and reported raising £12,000 over the past year for the school - this is a wonderful total and has enabled us to add significantly to the children’s learning experiences here.
As part of Fairtrade Week, the Co-op in Lintot Square visited us to deliver an assembly about the importance of trading fairly. The bananas for everyone proved very popular!
The children have been working hard to further their learning across the curriculum-
Reception have used bee bots to develop their programming skills and made marmalade sandwiches for Paddington Bear
Year 1 have been writing their own stories based on the ‘Snow Bear’ book
Year 2 had a delivery of a box with a hole in the top. Inside was a letter, a film, a book and a penguin which encouraged our pupils to learn all about penguins and write stories about their penguin’s adventures.
Years 3 and 4 enjoyed an African Drumming Workshop, both listening and participating
Year 5 have been rehearsing with other Horsham Schools for the Music Festival at The Hawth in June.
Year 6 took part in the Horsham Primary School’s Indoor Athletics event at Collyer’s Sixth Form College and the whole class attended the Junior Citizen Workshop at the Drill Hall, Horsham.
