Southwater Horticultural Society

It seems years since the AGM, possibly because we seem to have experienced a whole year’s weather since then, from almost tropic to positively arctic! The Chairman, Peter Buckley, remarked that at last we managed a normal year as far as shows and events were concerned and confirmed that the 2023 Plant Sale will be on the first May Bank Holiday weekend - Monday 1 May - a change from our normal Saturday!

The committee, after some soul searching, had come to the conclusion that we would just have two shows this year, the Spring Show On Saturday 18 March and the Summer Show on 2 September. The Rose and Sweet Pea Show is no longer viable and there is a rose section in the Summer Show so all is not lost.

He congratulated the small but dedicated team who worked on the replanting scheme in Lintot Square - we look forward to seeing the spring bulbs come into their own now and the perennials seem to have coped with everything the weather has thrown at them so they should be ever better this year!

Like many other organisations, we could do even more if we had a larger membership. Please don’t be put off by our title - we are really a very inclusive gardening club with gardens ranging from the old established to little more than pocket handkerchief but all struggling with glorious wealden clay.

Maybe you’re new to the village; come along to the Spring Show in the Village Hall, Church Lane, say hello and find out more about us.
