Southwater Welcome Club Poem

It’s almost a year since I joined this group

I don’t know what I expected, but what a surprise.

It’s been like a trip down Memory Lane

As I’ve met old faces from my childhood days.

A much loved dinner lady and my old Brown Owl,

Lovely people with stories to tell.

Friendship and contact this group does so well,

At activities and entertainments, they really do excel.

And the Raffle is surely the afternoons highlight

For the very best prizes there could be a fight!

At our Christmas soirée while enjoying mince pies and mulled wine together,

We listened to the music of the harp played by the very talented Heather.

Southwater on film from bygone days

When life was simpler in many ways.

And who can forget the ukulele band

And the violin player that sounded just grand.

Our Jubilee Party to honour our late Queen

A glass of bubbly with scones, jam and cream.

Now, were we ready to take a chance

And join the Chameleons with a belly dance?

What a privilege it’s been for me

To join this group for cake and tea.

Remembering especially dear Shirley Urwin

Who sat at the entrance when we came in,

And I hope the memory of her never fades

In Southwater Village Hall, where memories are made.
